About Well-Being in Higher Education

This website provides assessment services for  students, faculty, and institutional researchers.  For individual students or faculty it gives each person a graphic display of their results, interpretative information, and suggestions for steps to be taken to strengthen their well-being.  Institutional researchers can customize the well-being inventories by adding any respondent  identification or survey questions they deem worthwhile.  Then they can give passwords only to those students or faculty who are the focus of their research.  As participants complete the inventories a unique database is created for each institution that an institutional researcher can query online or download for statistical analyses.  Upon request, advanced statistical analyses also can be done by staff at Well-Being in Higher Education.

About Charles Walker, Website Manager

Charles Walker is a Professor of Psychology at St. Bonaventure University.  Dr. Walker has been doing research on human well-being in higher education for over a decade.  From 1992 to 1999 he was an affiliate scholar at the National Center on Postsecondary Teaching, Learning and Assessment. With Robert Menges of Northwestern University he studied the adjustment of new faculty into their roles as teachers. With K. Patricia Cross and Thomas Angelo he was a co-facilitator of the U.C. Berkeley Faculty Development National Conference and has served as a trainer for faculty development programs sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities, the American Association of Higher Education, the Bush Foundation, the National Science Foundation, and the Lilly Foundation. He has been invited to speak on the results of his recent research on student well-being at national and international conferences. He is a member of the International Positive Psychology Association,  American Psychological Association and Association for Psychological Science.
